SAP_SF.EXE
Version 1.0
The SAP_SF a complimentary SPITFIRE utility which was
designed to convert your Sapphire (Vers. 1.10a) user file so it is
compatible with SPITFIRE (Version 3.0). If you are running
an existing Sapphire BBS and have changed to SPITFIRE, this utility
will be necessary to transfer your SUSER.DAT file to SPITFIRE'S
user file, SFUSERS.DAT and build the required SFUSERS.PTR file.
The program is initiated at the DOS prompt by typing in
SAP_SF. However, the functions performed by the program are
dependent upon what files also reside in the directory.
1) Appending SUSER.DAT to an existing SFUSERS.DAT
When executed SAP_SF will automatically search the
directory for a SFUSERS.DAT file. If found, the program will
display a message that a SPITFIRE BBS users file was found and
prompt you by asking if you wish to append your SUSER.DAT to
this file. To do so, respond by hitting the <Y> (for Yes) at
the prompt. SAP_SF will then clear the screen and display a box
in the upper left hand corner which allows you to monitor the
progress as it converts the SUSER.DAT and appends it to the
existing SFUSERS.DAT file. SAP_SF will then create a file called
SFUSERS.PTR which SPITFIRE uses to readily find a specific user when
searching the SFUSERS.DAT. When completed another window will
appear displaying a "Finished" message to indicate the conversion
process is completed. Once, this is completed all you will need to
do is copy the newly created SFUSERS.DAT and SFUSERS.PTR files into
the directory you have set up as your work file path (or SPITFIRE's
default work file path, \SF\WORK) during the installation of SPITFIRE.
If you respond by inputting <N> (for No), SAP_SF will notify
you that you are about to overwrite the existing SFUSERS.DAT.
To abandon program execution press the <ESC> key and the program
will be terminated and announce that the program execution is
"Finished". Hitting any other key, other than the <ESC> key, will
cause the program to write to the existing SFUSERS.DAT file and append
the current records with those being converted from Sapphire's
SUSER.DAT following the same procedure described above. Again,
once, this is completed all you will need to do is copy the newly
created SFUSERS.DAT and SFUSERS.PTR files into the directory you
have assigned as the work file path (or SPITFIRE's default work file
path, \SF\WORK) when installing SPITFIRE.
2) Converting the SUSER.DAT to SFUSERS.DAT
To convert your existing SUSER.DAT to SPITFIRE's
SFUSERS.DAT be certain both files reside in the same directory
and type in SAP_SF at the DOS prompt. SAP_SF will then clear
the screen and display a box in the upper left hand corner which
allows you to monitor the progress as it converts the SUSER.DAT.
SAP_SF will then create a file called SFUSERS.PTR which SPITFIRE
uses to readily find a specific user when searching the SFUSERS.DAT.
When completed another window will appear displaying a "Finished"
message to indicate the conversion process is completed. Once, this
is completed all you will need to do is copy the newly created
SFUSERS.DAT and SFUSERS.PTR files into the directory you have set up
as your work file path (or SPITFIRE's default work file path, \SF\WORK)
when installing SPITFIRE.
3) Executing SAP_SF without SUSER.DAT
If you attempt to run SAP_SF and the program cannot access
the SUSER.DAT file, a message will be displayed to the screen
indicating the file could not be found. It will also notify you
that program execution has been halted.
